Group size and age
The Screaming Viking is perfect for children and up and a good number of players is around 8-20. So, it’s a great game for medium and larger groups of people that need to be entertained.
This game works great with groups of all ages, and even adults love Screaming Viking as a drinking game!
Preparation and Materials
The Screaming Viking does not require any special materials or different setups, just a place where everyone can sit comfortably in a circle, with space to move and facing the middle.
How to play
- One person standing in the middle of the group needs to get someone from the circle to make a mistake.
- The person in the middle tells a seated player to act as a Screaming Viking in a funny and silly way with the intention to make him cause the mistake. Then, the chosen player, the player on his left, and the player on his right also needs to scream loudly as a Viking.
- The three players have around 10 seconds to do the moves without making mistakes, the main Viking needs to count out loud while they make it. The chosen player has to make rowing motion to his side with his index fingers next to his head pointing up like Viking horns.
- If the chosen player or the ones next to him also acting as Viking make any mistakes, then the player will be the next person standing in the center as the main Viking.
Another example, the person in the middle of the group chooses one of the players and says “Elephant”. That player should start making a sound like an elephant and imitate the movement of the trunk. At the same time player on his left and the player on his right also needs to scream loudly and imitate the movement of the elephant’s ears with their hands.
Alternative versions of the Screaming Viking
There are different versions of the Screaming Viking Game, in which instead of the chosen player making horns with his index fingers and the players next to him screaming loudly, they have to make other actions and scream different things.
One of the most famous is the Smurfs version, and as the player in the middle picks someone the three players need to interlock their arms, dance, and sing around the Smurfs song.
There’s also the Chia Pet version where the chosen player act as a plant and the other two form the pot with their bodies. And all three of them must scream Chia or make a noise that sounds like Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch.
And the last variation of the Screaming Viking is the Jello. The player selected has to act like a jello, wobbling from side to side while the players at his side form a bowl with their arms. The intention is to be as silly as possible! So the more weird movements and different noises the players make, the funnier the game will be.
