Aim of the Game

In the Chain Tag game, the goal is to tag other players so they can join you. However, the fun part starts when all tagged players have to hold hands!

Ideal Age and Group Sizes

To play Chain Tag, it is better to have a group size of at least 6 to 10 players.

Ideally, the game works best for larger groups and there is no maximum number of players. Having more players increases the difficulty of the game but makes it even more fun for everyone.

This is a great group game for anyone aged 6 and above.

Preparation and Needed Materials

Chain Tag is an excellent game as it requires no materials and has a quick and easy set up.

The game can be played in open spaces both indoors and outdoors, just ensure that you have plenty of space, so kids can move around freely.

Always remember to remove any sharp or unsafe objects around before playing to avoid someone stepping on them accidentally.

How to Play the Chain Tag Game

Set up boundaries of the play area.

Step 1: To get ready to start the game, nominate one person to be the tapper (“It”). Then get all of the other kids to move around.

Step 2: As they move around, the tapper has to try to tap as many players as possible.

Step 3: Once the players are tagged they join the tapper by holding hands. With every new tagged player, the chain grows more and more. All tagged players must follow the main tapper.

Other players must avoid the chain as well; if they touch it they get also tagged and become part of the chain.

The game continues until all players have been tagged and joined the chain. The last person who has been tagged then becomes the next tapper and round 2 begins!
